Jim Pennington
Self-taught artist, Jim Pennington spent his formative years immersed in the collections of the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, the Art Institute of Boston, and the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum. There, he studied and meticulously copied masterworks, developing his skills through observation and practice.
His dedicated exploration of 19th-century painters—such as Sargent, Zorn, Chase, Whistler, Cortes, and Degas—along with a deep appreciation for the chiaroscuro and sfumato techniques of the Italian masters, provided a strong classical foundation for his evolving style.
Today, Pennington’s finely crafted canvases echo the timeless influence of these artistic giants while offering a fresh perspective—one that captures the quiet beauty of contemporary life with grace and subtlety.
