Bekye Fargason

I moved from Laurel, Mississippi in 1971 and have lived in New York City, New Orleans and Santa Fe New Mexico, all the while dreaming of returning to my home. That dream was realized in the autumn of 2021. My career as an artist began in NYC working as a decorative painter for various interior designers and private residential and commercial clients. In 1993 my son and I relocated to New Orleans where I continued my career in the decorative arts. Applying techniques used in decorative painting, I successfully transitioned to canvas creating paintings that were highly textured and vibrantly reflective. In January of 2017 I moved to Santa for a 5 year stint and now commute between Laurel and Santa Fe for work.

My love of nature, animals and different cultures is abundantly expressed in my work. From mysterious swamps of Louisiana, majestic landscapes of Colorado, portraits of Native Americans, a magical pond in Mississippi to colorful, whimsical folk art inspired by New Mexican and Mexican cultures, all are heartfelt expressions of what I hold near and dear.

Bekye Fargason’s work has appeared in the following publications: Mountain Living, Su Casa, Santa Fean, Canyon Road Magazine, Santa Fe New Mexican Home, Albuquerque Journal, New Orleans Home, Louisiana Homes & Gardens, New Orleans Homes & Lifestyles, New Orleans Living, House Beautiful and Southern Living.
