Influenced by New Orleans street names, the Muses parade and of course, Greek Mythology, I have embarked upon an artistic journey exploring the ancient deities that sparked our ancestors’ imaginations in the first place. The Nine Muses are demigoddesses and daughters of Zeus, the head honcho of Mount Olympus. They are the inspirational symbols of literature, science and the arts. The Muses were also thought to bring about forgetfulness toward pain and obligations – yet another attribute closely associated with New Orleans culture!
Speaking of which… while I procrastinate about the concept of inspiration before libation, there quickly came about a sweet diversion to the main event – there was a flash of lightning, a lime wedge and some Peychaud’s bitters… suddenly the alchemical deities sprung forth and hence, the Nine Boozes were born – a melding of New Orleans cocktail culture and mixology including all of your favorite indigenous southern concoctions – all painted in my “Nouveaux” style.
